This book is packed with helpful information, and should be used as a supplement to something TRULY great, like the Pocket Medicine from Mass General. While there's lots of good info, this book falls short in a few ways.1. Very cursory review of everything (goes without saying - it's small, and it's trying to include all of internal med in readable font size).2. The editing is crummy. For example, the "commonly prescribed meds" in the back is misaligned, and many of the included meds haven't been on the market in years. Kinda lazy if you ask me.3. The index isn't very thorough - you have to find a lot of info yourself. For example, the index says CHF - go to page x. Page x has CHF mentioned in a figure, but the bulk of the info on CHF was actually several chapters prior.In general, this will help with test-taking and supplementing/confirming/reminding you of important stuff. Also kudos for colorful use of tables, though due to reasons above, I would feel the need to verify accuracy of the info therein before I took them for gospel.
Poorly organized and with many central concepts lacking from either the content or the index so you cant find it. An inefficient resource overall as you are lost looking for topics that a rapid internet search fixes. Usually the benefit of books like these is that they have great illustrations that simplify concepts....this also utterly lacks that. Content is in list, bullet point form with few images. Benefits are that when it does contain the content you are looking for, workup and treatment sections seem on point. But again, I set it down because it slowed me down immensely and was hardly useful overall.
Very concise and quick to get through for a final 'skim' before boards. I can overlook a lot of the formatting issues throughout the text; however, Appendix B in particular is an absolute disaster -- it was a great idea to list a table with generic drugs and their brand-name counterparts, but they are not lined up correctly from almost the beginning (starting at budenoside)...yikes.
All you need to know for Step 2, in a very small , yet extraordinarily precise, book. Just excellent.
Very concise, bullet-style format of high-yield info for clinical rotations and for Step 2. I really like the size - much easier to carry around during rotations on day-to-day basis. Keep on hand for those "down moments" throughout the day. Much smaller than typical textbook.
