There are a total of 101 pages in this book, but only 21 of the pages I found to have useful content, such as puzzles, games, cultural facts about Puerto Rico, etc. 30 pages comprised of diary pages where you fill in the date, the weather, a journal entry, and draw a picture. There are another 10 pages for reflection and coloring upon arriving home. The other 60 pages are checklists or lists of some sort, a packing list, a list of people you want to send post card to, size conversions, (which don't apply to Puerto Rico), puzzles/games, and the answer keys. Just buy a blank diary and find a good travel with children website.

Excellent travel journal for kids. Has about 14 days and each day asks what the date is, weather, gives space to write about your day, asks what the funniest thing that happened, the best food of the day, and what they liked best about the day. They also leave a page to add a drawing or picture for each day. There are games for the flight and down time too.

I have lived in the Dominican Republic for 22 years. This book has some good information about the country, but it also has MANY blank "journal" pages. My suggestion as someone who lives in the DR: Look up info on the country online and review it as a family. Then, just buy your child a journal notebook. The book is overpriced for the content (lack of).

I'll be heading to Alaska in 2017 for 3 weeks. Wanted something compact to record my thoughts about my trip. This will be perfect! Also has puzzles (with the answers in the back), that will be too simple for me, but I can work them with my grandkids.The journal part of the book is laid out in a 2-page spread...on the left there is room for the date, a small space to describe the weather and several lines to fill in with "What we did today". There are 3 lines at the bottom of the page with "Cool food of the day", "What I liked best today" and "Funny thing of the day." The right page has the title "Draw something you saw today" with a large frame underneath. At the bottom of the right page it says, "My picture is of:" That last thing will be good for me since I can't draw to save my soul and most things I do draw don't look much like what they are supposed to be.There's a list of websites you can use to research more about Alaska and pages to list what you'd like to see or places you'd like to visit. There are also 2 pages devoted to listing the names and addresses of people you'd like to send post cards too.The small size (7.5" wide x 9.25" tall and about 1/4" thick) will make it easy to slip into my backpack.

These were a gift for visiting children. They loved the journals! Both children explored with excitement to find the perfect subject for the day's journal entries.

My very first book by Kenneth E. Hagin. Recently on YouTube I heard testimony from someone who actually went to his college and he said this man was 100% real, he was no different when he was away from the pulpit than when he was in front of it. I decided to try one of his books so this is it and I love the way he keeps it short and to the point. The book is full of spiritual nuggets and wisdom and is small and easy to hold, fits on the desk nicely. I was so impressed by his genuine faith and knowledge that I purchased about 20 more through Kindle, they are all .99 cent so I will take advantage of the opportunity to learn from a very gifted man through his anointed testimonies. When Jesus went to heaven to sit at the right hand of the Father, He gave US His authority. WE humans have the authority in the name of Jesus to stop things, like hurricanes, winds, fires, if we would only learn how to use this authority and use it. This book teaches us how.

This is a book I feel every Christian, and non-Christian should read. There is much talk of the authority that people of faith have, and the exercise of faith. But the late Pastor Hagin illuminates how to reach our Lord for that authority and an effective way to pray. Read this and be blessed.

I advocate moderation in the application of democracy because we seem to expect too much from politics and governance. In a complex pluralistic society with competing needs, the most we should expect, or desire, is stability, consistency, coherence, competency and predictability. The last thing that should be expected or desired is the implementation of an agenda, an ideology or a philosophy or anything smelling of an ‘-ism. By this, I am not advocating weak government or even smaller or less government necessarily, but a government that is strong and active in performing those essential public roles that only government can fulfill which I hope are obvious enough to require no further reiteration here. For example, property is a private good, but property rights are a public good and without a strong and competent government, there will no property rights and thus no private property. It is too often the case that under our current neo-liberal paradigm, political issues reduce to the problems of the individual and private fantasy becomes public currency.Most often, political change comes from elites with democracy being a form of regime change without violence. It is fantasy to believe that with democracy we are selecting the best qualified leaders and administrators. The true crisis of democracy occurs when the citizens stop trusting the elites, not when there is voter apathy or lack of participation. Democracy does not empower individuals, it empowers collectives of which individuals are only the smallest part thereby dis-empowering individuals. The problem is that democracy is premised upon empowering an electorate to govern which is itself unfit to govern thus opening the system to manipulation and corruption which renders the entire system self-defeating. The electorate is unfit to govern or even give informed consent to be governed for a variety of reasons, not the least of which are its uninformed, uncritical, self-interested and myopic nature. This is essentially the Platonic critique of democracy and it is still valid. The Platonic critique is still valid because the electorate is nothing other than it can be and no amount of enfranchisement, participation or civic education will change it because of who and what we are and remain as human beings as observed by Plato. Given that we accept that democracy is still the least bad system of governance yet tried, the solution lies not in eliminating the current system, not in finding a new system or even in improving the current system. The solution is to limit the scope of the current system and apply it with moderation to those essential tasks to which it is best suited. But is this possible? The political order in any manner conceived will be, will become and will remain distorted and dysfunctional. This why the liberal-capitalist- humanitarian-democratic order is just a mask for the brutal reality of power.Democracy and aristocracy, for that matter capitalism and socialism are all just abstractions. It does no good to say that democracy is fair and aristocracy unfair or that capitalism is rapacious but efficient and that socialism is benevolent but inefficient. These are just labels; abstractions from reality. The reality is us. If we want more humane politics, more rational economics, and a more sensible civil order then we must become more humane, more rational and more sensible people. The method of political, economic or social organization is just beside the point. We can have any so called ‘system’ we desire but its outcomes will be governed by who we are as human beings. For example, China seems to be making a form of ‘authoritarian capitalism’ work, this we are told is theoretically impossible based on ‘system’ logic. Socialism, for all its theoretical flaws, seems to work in Denmark, etc. However, in the case of both, history still has time to make a judgement. For example, China is a great replicator, but can it become an innovator as is the U.S.? That is, can China become an innovator in science, medicine and technology without political plurality, strong property right and a reliable rule of law? We must ask ourselves, is capitalist economic organization entering a new phase where political liberty and representation are no longer needed? Is the economy becoming incompatible with the social structure? That is, there is no guarantee that a successor system to capitalism will be more progressive or conducive to human flourishing.In any case, the answers are to be found where the problems are to be found, with us and within us. What gets translated into governance via the ‘system’ will depend entirely upon the character of the people that comprise the ‘system’. This is a matter of social and cultural evolution, or devolution as the case may be. The ‘system’ of governance is emergent from the underlying social consensus and complexity. Is the social consensus headed in the right direction? Is the social consensus itself the product of manipulation? The key question being, can we evolve fast enough to head off our own shortsighted foolishness. We cannot keep politics out of governance, or can we? In any case, it is not from our sinfulness, but our foolishness that we need to be saved. But we must save ourselves, is this possible?

Democracy is not a fixed state. It is a concept, different to everyone at different times. It is continually evolving. As time goes on and attitudes change, the vote has been given to non-landowners and women, for example. In the original, in ancient Greece, voters had to be white adult male citizens who adhered to the state religion. Not a real democracy, but a good start.Democracy and Its Crisis follows it through its many mutations and variations, from various People’s Republics of Murderous Dictatorship to the ossified, cobweb-encrusted American version, and the hypocritical and fraudulent British version. Most of it is speculation from philosophers, because democracy was not widespread until the last century. So everyone’s concept was valid, if blue-sky. The evidence of its many faults and inconsistencies is plainly out in front of us, and assembling it here points to the staggering failures, inefficiencies and frauds of this best of the worst systems.There is a special condemnation of factions as Madison called what we know as parties. They corrupt the process and the execution, Whips ensure members vote as instructed, and party policy is more important than facts on the ground in the home constituency, or compromise with other parties. It has meant the most qualified steer clear of elected office, leaving voters with poor choices. So fewer and fewer bother to vote at all.Grayling lays out the facts – they are not hard to find. His solutions are all reasonable and essentially impossible. He wants the vote to be mandatory and to begin at 16. He wants civics lessons to begin at 14. He wants proportional representation, because no one represents the voters who did not vote for the winner. That winner usually earns less than half the population and represents nothing. For example, in the Brexit referendum, only 37% of the electorate voted For (ie. Leave), and they represented just 26% of the adult population. So was democracy effective? Grayling would like to ensure it is by adapting the structure to our realities.Because the real crisis of democracy is not fixed, either. It needs constant vigilance to ward off the ever-evolving corruption of parties, lobbies, those with ulterior motives, who have no intention of working for the common good but only to enrich themselves by offering to further enrich the rich, or gerrymandering or constituencies with no voters or that don’t even exist, and so on. I read this book in just a few hours. I couldn’t put it down.I didn’t know much about the Spice Girls, but I enjoy Mel B. on America's Got Talent. Brutally Honest is just that. Some of her story was very unpleasant for me to read, but I plugged along. Never having been abused in the way she has been, and by so many men, it was difficult for me to understand why she kept falling for the same kind of abusive men. I did begin to understand how this happened to her, and I feel so much empathy for her and her daughters. I hope very much that she is now as strong as she says she is and will stay away from those types of men. I hope the drinking has stopped. I hope she continues to see Dr. Sophy until she is one hundred percent sure that she is cured of all of her addictions, including men. She’s only in her early forties. I think she’s still susceptible to falling for the same kind of guy. Be careful, Mel B!! I hope you make a ton if money with this book.

What a gut wrenching book. I cried during most of it. Melanie packs a he'll of a story but it's been a hell of a life. This is a woman I admired and thought she had everything and the best of life. Truth shall set you free. Being a abused wife myself, I know all the signs so reliving that through this book was incredibly hard and there were times I had to put it down and stop. But I am thankful that she had the courage to get this done and start her life over and be the mom her children deserve. My heart, prayers and love to put to a remarkable woman who got sucked into a terrifying experience and was able to recover and come away with her life and love. There is a special place in hell for abusers and I pray one day they all get what they deserve. May Melanie now have the life she and her children deserve. Book packs a wallup!

A heartbreaking, inspiring and raw memoir. This book will strike all of your emotions.The audiobook is narrated by Melanie, her daughter, mother, and third party voice talent that Melanie auditioned. Who narrates the book is not important. What’s important is the story it tells.

I wasn't a huge Spice Girls fan but I was somewhat familiar with her Spice Girls days because my little brother was a big fan. My familiarity with Mel was from her brief reality show and her time on AGT. I've always liked Mel's public persona as I've find her funny and affable. Initially, I had no plans to read the book but after hearing Mel B discuss it on TV I changed my mind.I'm glad I checked it out. Once I started the book I couldn't put it down. It only took me three days to finish it. I had no idea that Melanie's experienced so many trials and tribulations in her life. Parts of her story are hard to read but ultimately, I came away feeling relieved and proud that Mel finally had the strength to leave her ex-husband. She's a survivor in every sense of the word. I hope the next chapters in her life are filled with happiness and continued success in her career.I don't want to give anything away but the book will hold your attention even if you have just a passing interest in Mel's life. I do wish she'd talked more about her Spice Girls days but from her perspective I suppose she feels like she shared all that needed to be said. Much of the book talks about the last ten years of her life with her ex-husband and her struggle to survive his abuse. Those chapters she seems to "tell-all" but I'd say the rest of the book is measured and respectful. She's honest but doesn't share more than is really necessary. After all, she does have two young daughter's to protect. I enjoyed the book immensely.

I read tons of biographies and this one really got to me emotionally because I don't believe it's the end nor "happily ever after" for Melanie Brown and Family. Yes, it's brutally honest and I've never been in that kind of relationship because after one incident I would be gone, but that's me. With her, she seemed to want children to "fix" her problems and it seemed her life came first-her children had to follow her wherever they went, and they suffered just as much, probably more. I'm a firm believer to protect children as number 1 idea. I wasn't thrilled to read what happened to her during her choice relationships (except with Eddie Murphy-good guy) but NO, she didn't communicate with Murphy and figured I'll go back and get him...stubborn woman! Instead she ended up with men with MAJOR issues instead! Children again, suffering. If I had read, at the end, that she doesn't drink anymore, and in a program changing her life, cleaning up the past emotionally (not with riches, with emotions) then wow, but she still parties and that scares me. I pray for the children and I hope she decides to put them first. Wait till they are all over 18 years old, then look for a partner in life, great. But they are all still at risk, in my humble opinion which I know equals nothing herein. As for the book cover with her left hand exposed and no ring...what is she saying again? And that Stephen guy is someone who I would hate to even think exists in this world...but should be behind bars forever. NO, he owns a restaurant? WTF is that? I don't recommend this book to anyone unless I know they are going thru this and with a major drinking problem. I cried every night over the last few chapters for her pets and children, her father too. Read this if you like SCARY in your SPICE only!

This should be required reading for anyone considering a job as a transit bus driver. And veteran drivers will enjoy this book as well since it so accurately and enjoyably describes one of the most misunderstood and most important professions in the United States.

This is a very well written book and should be required reading for any transit customer. It's the most educational material a rider could read, if you want to know why your bus is late, or perhaps why that other driver is educating you on why you shouldn't walk in front of the bus before boarding. Whether you're a passenger or an operator, this book covers it all. Not only that, you will learn what operators go through on a daily basis, and some of it ain't pretty, folks.I drove transit buses for 14 years and was a transit supervisor for 11 years after that. Deke knows of what he speaks.If you're looking for a great gift for someone who rides, drives, or has anything to do with public transportation, this is the gift .

I love memoirs. What really made this one interesting was how eye opening it was. I have never ridden a transit bus or train. I've ridden a school bus but that's nowhere near the same. I've never thought about what it would take to be a bus driver, the danger they face each day, or the things that they have to consistently aware of. I salute each and every one of you. As for your book, you made me laugh, you made me think, you even made me raise my eyebrows and shake my head but you kept my interest. I can only say "You are a 'writer' who drives a bus."

In real life, I ride a lot of buses run by multiple transits (e.g. In the past two years in random order: Sound Transit, Community Transit of Snohomish County Washington, Island Transit of Island County Washington, Skagit Transit, TransLink of Vancouver BC, BC Transit of British Columbia, Intercity Transit of Olympia Washington, Pierce Transit) and yes about once a quarter a year Deke's Trimet) and sit on a transit community advisory committee - and like Deke, I face reprimands when staff notice I mention which committee I sit on. I also do a lot of commenting on transit in cyberspace. No writing provides more intellectual illumination of the issues transit operators face than this tome. As such, if you have anything to do with transit - operator, rider, administrator, dispatcher, maintainer, advisor OR consultant - READ THIS BOOK!!!!For instance, if you are a rider as I am you will learn what behaviors will keep you safe from a meet n greet with 40 tons of machinery. If you are an advisor as I am or administrator or Board member or maintainer or consultant; you will understand what transit operators actually do and the very genuine stresses transit operators operate under.I really did not realize until I read this book cover to cover also the difficulties transit operators have with repetitive motion, seeing around the bus, and just the general physical & mental toll of the job. That's BEFORE we get to the horrid rising epidemic of assaults against Trimet operators.I also really have decided for this Christmas to request a jacket that IS reflective so I will have two reflective jackets - one heavy and now one light. Even though a Skagit Transit operator kindly gifted me a little LED, most of my jackets are dark green or you guessed it black. Just another little tip I picked up from reading this book.You will pick up a lot more great tips how to be a safer and more appreciative user of transit after reading this book. I highly recommend this book for the public transportation community - it should truly be on all your Amazon Smile wishlists.

I have always been in awe of anyone who has the courage and steely nerves to drive anything for a living. Especially those who have to do it while dealing with the public at the same time. "Deke" , gives a usually humorous, and sometimes frightening view of life in the driver's seat of a city bus driver...MAN are they brave, and under appreciated. If you enjoy the occasional view of the world from another's eyes, you'll like this book, and you'll like Deke N. (Decon) Blue...he's one of the good guys.

A very interesting view into the life of a transit operator. A bus driver sees all walks of life, and this book gives you a beautifully written insight into not only the heart of a city and it's people, but that of the writer itself. Gripping, and a great read.

Brings back so many memories I have personally experienced in my 38-years before I was beaten near death and lost my career due to the serious injuries inflicted on me. I miss socializing with the public, my co-workers and the pride I had in providing a safe and courteous service to my many loyal customers. Without them, I would not have the rich experience of so many wonderful people, with the exception of the 3 thugs who, because we're on a cocaine and beer induced frenzy, decided, I was their next target. Yes, they did get caught but the judge let them out of incarceration after only 3 months jail time. These were the few, but I have long life friends who started off at the beginning, to be my passengers. Miss them all, and this book describes to a "t" what we all experience, whether it is in Canada, the USA, or Europe. Deke&Blue tells it the way it is in our profession. Thank you for rolling me down memory lane!

My husband is a city bus driver so I ordered this book for him. He said it hit the nail on the head with a kind of frank, open, and sincere conversation about the issues transit drivers face. He enjoyed reading about how other drivers dealt with any number of situations and the humor in the chaos! For example the bathroom issue, constantly changing schedules, route schedules that insert an unpaid 2-4 hour break in the middle of a shift, and passengers with their array of life experiences, personalities, and needs. If you're a driver or know somebody who is, this book may have the insight you're looking for!
