About the Author

Dr. Ron, as patients at The Clinic fondly refer to Ron Hunninghake, MD, is a native Kansan. He served his medical internship at Wichita’s Wesley Medical Center in 1979 and completed his residency at the Smoky Hill Family Practice Program in Salina, Kansas in 1982. Dr. Ron began his career as a small town doc in Minneapolis, Kansas where he first started teaching clinic-based wellness. I recently saw Dr. Hunninghake as a patient. The information I received at that visit has changed my life. Reading this book has reinforced everything and is helping me so much. I had so much inflammation in my body that it even affected my eyes. After messing around with eye specialists for 2 1/2 years I finally found someone who knew exactly what was going on and didn't even mention drugs to cover over the problem. He gave me lifestyle changes to FIX the problem. I have become a different person and can see that my life can only get better as long as I follow Dr. Ron's advice. If you have health problems that are being covered over by drugs and you want to live better than you are now, this book is a good place to start. Sometimes there are options to mainstream medicine. If you are between a rock and a hard place with your health issues check out this book.

This is an excellent guide toward understanding the inflammation associated with arthritis. I highly suggest reading it and sharing this with your Dr. or friends suffering similarly. It is small but packed full of good information.

This is a wonderful little book about a great African-Canadian boxer whose name has mostly been lost to history. I first came across George Dixon -- also known as "Little Chocolate" -- while doing research on old mental hospital records from Delaware. An African-American man was arrested in the early 1900s in Wilmington, Delaware for being drunk and disorderly. After singing and dancing for the police officers, and then setting his clothes on fire at the jail, he was sent off to the mental hospital. There he pretended to be the famous (at the time) boxing champion George Dixon. The authorities didn't believe him, even though he reported many details of George's life accurately, except that he said his first name was John. After a couple of weeks in the mental hospital, he was deemed once again sober and rational and he was released. In my efforts to track down whether this could have actually been the real George Dixon, I stumbled across this nice biography of him. He did seem to have a problem with drinking and partying, but apparently never spent time in the Delaware State Hospital. Nonetheless, this is a fascinating, well-written book that provides plenty of interesting information about his life and career. Too bad he has been mostly forgotten.
