Michel Bruneau, P.E., P.Eng., is Professor in the Department of Civil, Structural, and Environmental Engineering at the State University of New York at Buffalo, and an ASCE Fellow. Dr. Uang has authored numerous articles on seismic behavior and design of steel structures. Rafael Sabelli, S.E., is a Principal and Director of Seismic Design at Walter P. Moore and Associates, Inc., and was President of the Structural Engineers Association of California from 2009 to 2010. He is a member of the AISC Task Committee on the Seismic Provisions for Structural Steel Buildings and the ASCE 7 Seismic Subcommittee. Mr. Sabelli is the coauthor of AISC Design Guide 20: Steel Plate Shear Walls as well as of numerous research papers on conventional and buckling-restrained braced frames.

This text was extremely useful in a seismic design course I took. By blending a review of current research efforts with clear design procedures, Prof Bruneau and his co-authors provide an engineering textbook different than many others. It's more than a how-to; it's more of a here's-why.The book offers aspiring and practicing engineers a thorough explanation of different frame options and understanding of their behavior. It then demonstrates how best to design each particular type of frame including design examples. At the same time, the authors make clear that there is still research to be done to better understand the behavior of steel structures under earthquake loads.I suspect this is one of those textbooks that I will reference for years to come.

I received the book, the cover was ok but the content was of the book: Structural Renovation of Buildings by Alexander Newman.

A must have for all engineers, researchers, and students interested in developing solid background in plastic design and seismic design of steel structures. Also a great reference book. Emphasis on behavior and understanding, which is they key to a great career in structural engineering.

Well written book overall. The material is very clear. The only noticeable downfall so far is that the writing stile is not particularly concise and is filled with long run-on sentences at times.

Excellent reference for steel design. It has historic background about every structural sistem. The topics include: frames, braced frames: concentrically and excentrically braced and other systems.

The Hookup Handbook by Kendall Ryan was such an outstanding book! I had so much fun reading this. It was seXXXy and sweet with small bursts of humor to break up the scenes that got a little more angsty. Although I wouldn’t categorize this one as an angsty read at all. Instead, it’s easy to jump into and before you know it you’ve read the whole book in one sitting… or that might be just me.😉Kendall Ryan is a New York Times, Wall Street Journal, and USA Today bestselling author with more than two dozen titles in her catalogue. I’ve had the pleasure of reading this author before and have always enjoyed the stories I read. I find her books well written and since the books—the ones I’ve read anyway—always show that attention to editing has been paid, I love to jump into Kendall Ryan’s stories. The Hookup Handbook is the second book in the Escort, Inc series and can be read as a complete standalone. (Full Discloser: I haven’t read the first book and had absolutely zero difficulty following this story.) It’s a dual POV, best friend's little sister, office romance with a fresh plot and characters which I thoroughly enjoyed. Case owns his own male escort business and when tasked by his best friend to find a job for his little sister, Case hires her to help him write the ultimate handbook for guys. While their start is rocky, Case quickly realizes he wants to keep Sierra around—and not just for the short term! For more than that, you need to read the book! 😊 Both primary characters—Case and Sierra—will win you over quickly. Initially, Case is a bit of an a$$hole, but with his… uhm, problem… I can understand his frustrations and how overwhelmed he was until Sierra stepped in, filling a gap he didn’t even know he had. Sierra and her brother, Ryder, come from a privileged background but are very down to earth and while I expected her to be entitled, she was not. Nor was Case what I expected of a male escort. These characters were thoughtfully written and will surprise you repeatedly much like they did me! I loved the forbidden nature of their relationship. The Hookup Handbook is SEXXY! Seriously I found it hot, but then again, I usually do when it comes to Kendall Ryan’s romances. The Hookup Handbook was an engaging and entertaining read for sure and my review of 4.5-star reflects my enjoyment of Kendall Ryan’s latest release. I’m soooo looking forward to reading Kendall Ryan’s next release and crossing my fingers to go back and read Boyfriend for Hire, the first book in the Escort, Inc series soon.

This was an ok read for me but nothing special. I love this author but I feel I don’t always love every aspect of every story.Case was simply not a favorite for me. The guy was all over the place. He goes back and forth and hot and cold.So he goes from this...“I just want to be sure you know this is a one-time deal. We’re not having repeat offenses this summer, understood?”So naturally she tries to play it his way and hide her growing feelings for him because he’s never once given her any indication he wants more with her.So then he goes to this...“Her laughing when I told her not to fall in love with me, only confirm what I’ve always been worried about. Being in this profession means no woman could ever fall in love with me.I hated they slept together for weeks and neither of them tell her brother or open up to each other to say they want more. Not until they are caught and it’s too late. I want a man who goes after what he wants and to hell with anyone or anything else. That wasn’t Case. He loved having sex with Sienna but never felt her worth the risk to come clean with his feelings until she walks away.I will say the ending is pretty good and their Epilogue was awesome too. I think maybe this series just isn’t for me but I would still read future books by this author.

Top 5 easily!I absolutely love Case & Sienna!!Case, wealthy playboy needs help to finish his how-to hookup handbook hires his best friends little sister to keep him on track, and assist with his time management. Slowly but surely, he develops feelings for Sienna, and their relationship takes off in a spiral of hot fiery passionate sex, and drama and angst!Its crazy but, I would totally read the hookup handbook if it was a real book!This book delivers, so many emotions felt, so much sexual tension, and a few good laughs (you'll know which part I mean!). I loved how the previous character tie in was short sweet and just enough of a glimpse into Nic's life that I got what I needed but didnt get rewrapped up in him. Because, Case is so swoon worthy, so sweet, and I wanted him to have all my attention 😂😂. I need more Case!Do yourself a favor, and just buy the book already!

First, I keep seeing the ad for this book on Facebook and I commented that the series ( I bought all 7) was shallow and had no character development. There were gaping plot holes and it read more like a die hard movie than a deep thinking story that it started out to be. The plot completely changes as If someone else started writing it in the middle. This was my honest review. They also banned me from their Facebook page and deleted my review which was deceitful and they’re just trying to sell more books. If you read most of the reviews of this series, you’ll see it’s not that good. Book one is compelling. The other books have you skipping pages because it’s some sort of impossible shoot out every other page. The plot is weak and makes no sense past the first book. I did buy all 7 and read them just to see how it ended and was as disappointed as I thought I would be. If you like the shoot up kind of action books, you’ll probably be entertained. If you’re looking for a good story line with compelling characters, don’t bother.

The Gender Secret did hold my attention but it ended abruptly and was not a complete book. I don't think a book in a series should end with "read the next book." Each book should be independently complete. Please see The Home for Peculiar Children series as an example of excellence IMHO. Overall, the story was more like a single episode to a weekly television action drama than a legitimate book. In addition, the writing is okay but a bit strange. There are higher level vocabulary words oddly placed throughout the text as if the editor started randomly replacing easier word choices with more challenging ones. I don't know if that makes sense but I have read many, many YA books and the rhythm of the vocabulary struck me as odd😳 I must read on. I don't think the series is a waste of time. It is not Hunger Games or Divergent or even as clever as A Series of Unfortunate Events, but it is not awful. I also thought the "romantic" elements in this book were oddly placed. It is odd, almost perverse, to talk about thoughts of attraction when someone's got worms 🐛 in their leg or red fly bites on their back. Stop It! I think the author did a fairly good job overall. The action and fight scenes are great and provide vivid descriptions for your imagination to play with.

This is the second in a series of books about a dystopian world where males dominate one side of the river and females dominate the other side. In the first book Violet destroys her life trying to save her younger brother when he is tested and found to be too aggressive for the Matriarchy. She ends up in detention for that crime and then makes it worse. When she has nothing left to look forward to but a life of servitude she's given the choice to do some undercover work for the crown, that will take her to the other side of the river.She quickly finds herself over her head, and falling in love with a warden of the Patriarchy despite the fact that part of her cover has her married to another man. Some parts of the book are predictable, her falling in love for instance. The feelings her 'fake' husband starts to show for her too fall in line with a standard YA romance, but it does diverge into interesting ways and the end of the first book was a total surprise.(some spoilers for 2 below)Book two starts with her in the most dangerous place she could possibly imagine, where every bit of flora and fauna is a dangerous predator due to contamination from an earlier war. I'm guessing something similar to Nuclear contamination though it's never clarified. Worse yet, the man she's fallen in love with no thinks she's betrayed her and is tasked with hunting her down and arresting her to bring her back for execution.One mystery is solved but a lot more are opened as they find a research facility hidden away in no-man's land. The book started going down predictable lines again, but there were twists and turns I wasn't expecting. I plan to continue!

I must admit that this second installment of the series was a bit more engrossing overall, which led me to once again continue the series. However, unlike the first book, this cliffhanger wasn’t as impressive. I enjoyed the development of relationship between the young protagonist and her unlikely love interest; however, it was still a surface-level connection. I’m going to give the third book in the series a go, simply because the writing was somewhat more intriguing; but, truth be told, my tolerance for this YA series is wearing thin.
